For open source development, judging by the numbers tracked by Ohloh, it has become the favorite language in the past two years. Ohloh lets you compare languages in a few areas, so I find this chart quite useful: http://www.ohloh.net/languages/compare?measure=commits&percent=true&l0=assembler&l1=c&l2=csharp&l3=cpp&l4=cncpp&l5=clojure&l6=emacslisp&l7=erlang&l8=groovy&l9=java&l10=lisp&l11=objective_c&l12=perl&l13=php&l14=python&l15=ruby&l16=scala&l17=scheme&l18=javascript&commit=Update For the real world, just last week Infoworld published an article on a Dice.com survey about skills in demand. Key quotes: "A recent survey by job-hunting site Dice.com found that the people who are hiring IT pros put Java/J2EE at the very top of their hiring criteria." That's a good sign for the future, I think. "The survey's findings map -- in this case -- to the Dice.com job listings, said Dice.com senior vice president Tom Silver. "On our site, there are over 14,000 postings looking for Java and J2EE developers, and it's a 58 percent rise from this time last year."' Sounds like a healthy rise in demand to me. cheers, dalibor topic -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "The Java Posse" group.
