I beg to differ on this.. The whole point here is that we are ignoring the progress that we have made in this direction. Writing the lengthy code,defining the classes, etc..For hibernate, the coding time is particularly less..
In any case, I think Hibernate is a good choice and a good example. have you seen that things are shaping in this direction? We are looking at less of coding and more of designing coming up..In any case, we see an abstraction at the code level. I think XML is a really good way of reducing the coding efforts..What is wrong with XML...HIbernate uses XML so I guess that is one of the strengths of the same.. In any case, I am all for this..If you disagree, let us have your opinion further on this...
