I really don't think there's any great mystery in understanding WHY Oracle is doing this. As the old adage states: "follow the money" The only question is whether it's tactical (looking for a lump sum payout) or strategic (looking for an ongoing revenue stream for android and other such "Java derivatives") FWIW, my money's on both... The important stuff will only really emerge once we see a settlement or in the courtroom.
