Women get pulled into roles that require a lot of their time. Children first
come to mind. My wife has the same computer science degree I have. One of us
had to attend school meetings, get kids to the bus, etc. That is the role
she is playing right now. There may be other demands than family, but that
has got to be the biggest reason for the difference.

Before you hit me about woman's lib and such, remember that each couple
makes a choice. My wife could have gotten a job writing software. She would
be very good at it. That is not important though and since she has been out
of practice for many years, getting back it would be quite difficult. We
have a profession that requires a lot of dedication to keep up with what is
going on. Not as bad as doctors of course, but certainly more demanding than
a real estate agent, bus driver, or other jobs that don't take so much of
your time that you are able to spend little time elsewhere.
