I'm a great fan of the web as a hypermedia system, and the associated ability to link and being addressable. And you already can do windows without toolbar, statusbar etc. and using i.e. GWT (history iframe) you can specifically target/ control back/undo experiences. Disabling navigation/history completely makes me think of Flash/Silverlight/Applets and various amputated experiences (i.e. Parley's client).
