I think I can see where you're going with this, Fabrizio. Like Mac

XServe might have made some tiny amount of profit above and beyond its
costs, but is irrelevant to the small-device focus the company seems

Yes. See my previous exchange with Reinier.
A lesson that could be learned is that Apple is far more focused than
most other companies in our field: it keeps its product line small and
rarely indulges flights of marketing fancy. It will kill borderline-
viable products if it thinks they're a distraction or have run their
course. By contrast, imagine if Sun had put resources into real Java
desktop and mobile development instead of silly indulgences like
Looking Glass, Wonderland, Darkstar, etc.
Yes again. My point is that being focused for a corporate is a competitive advantage and this might lead to drop secondary, even though profitable, lines of products. Of course, if this scales up to the level of "classic desktop computers", which was the discussion with Reiner, is to be demonstrated. But I'm not trying to demonstrate anything, but the fact that there are some concrete points in suspecting that one day Apple might completely to the way of cool gadgets, leaving classic computers behind. The only reasonable objection to that, as said by others, is the question "where would Apple do its internal development".
