My guess airport security has a surplus of employees, experts making recommendations and the other analysts and security firms selling related equipment. The government wants everyone to belive the terrorist hype, after all they just wasted a few trillion in the past 10 years chasing shadows, and the aforementioned people naturally want to keep their jobs or sell something expensive.
