Well if you pick on DarkStar I should mention that the server side portion of Project Wonderland is powered by project DarkStar. I know there was some interest in it but I don't know the specifics of people using it for any real world applications. It does seem like clever technology though.
Project Looking Glass died but I believe a good deal of the technology for Project Wonderland came out of Project Looking Glass. I don't know if people were transferable between Sun Labs and the mainstream company. I found Sun Labs the coolest part of Sun albeit any R&D is not going to be instantly profitable. There was the understanding in Sun Labs that projects undertaken there might fail.
