I didn't say they rewrote iOS from scratch. I questioned that it has
been derived from Mac OS X; in particular

Frankly, what you wrote just confirms my idea... iOS seems to be have
derived from the U*ix core inside Mac OS X, not Mac OS X itself. I'd
rather say iOS is a derivative of Darwin.
