I have finally managed to get up to date with the posts or I might
have posted earlier.

I used to be very much indifferent to Oracle. I had no reason to care
about what they did until they acquired Sun. If they had not done so I
expect nothing would have changed on that front.

As time has gone on I have tried to hope for the best while fearing
the worst. The idea of buying goodwill seems to be made ridiculous as
kind of a case and point by the Oracle acquisition. Oracle may have
bought Sun but it is clearly nothing like them for better or worse.

I have become more aware of Suns failings due to things brought to my
attention on these forums. In the sort term I think Java really needs
the money and resources of someone like Oracle and/or IBM to reverse
the stagnation. If Sun were still around, (and as much as I miss them)
they would likely still not have the money to move Java forward.

My enthusiasm for the Java space is not as it was. I am still here but
it feels like I have lost my Mojo (I want my Mojo back!)

There is a pragmatism to staying aloof of the political fighting which
goes on between technologies and just using what works or what I am
paid to develop with. Pragmatic it may be but I find I miss being
enthused about some kind of technology and right now I am plodding
without my enthusiasm being redirected.

The more time I spend on this forum the more I feel like my own
remarks are impetuous and show a lack of experience. To that end I
don't feel confident in knowing what the 'right' thing is to do next.
Sometimes Java feels like it really is dying but other times not.
Should I leave? Should I stay. Java has flaws and seemingly so does
everything else I look at too.

I would (and strictly speaking have) paid money to Sun in some form
but I would be most begrudged to do business with Oracle seeing the
kind of company they appear to be unless I had by necessity a need to
do so.

I own a Mac but am not an Apple fan but have some need to support Mac
O/S X and therefore felt a need to do business there regardless of
whether I felt owning a Mac was worthwhile.
