I think it may still not be fully correct to say that .NET is less
problematic than Java for the FOSS community. With all respect to
Novell and Icaza in person, Mono more remembers me the attempts of GNU
Classpath that also had some companied behind. It looks much more
probable for me that migration from Java at the end will lead to
migration to the Microsoft .NET under Windows and nowhere else. As a
result, I think it is wiser to stay with Java, where possible. The GPL
license of OpenJDK provides protection against patents. Android can
only be attacked because it is derived from the completely different
base.
