So far I'm indifferent to this news because it does not seem to affect
anyone. I think what you're referring to as the "effect on video
professionals" is described in the article as follows:

"In addition, I know that if your encoding facilities are working at
or near capacity, you'll have to buy more computers, add more encoding
tools, add some encoding expertise, and double your future storage
space if WebM takes off."

There are some clear parallels to banning Flash, Java and -- for a
while anyway -- competing development environments from the iWorld. I
recall you being able to "contain your disgust" there. Not being a
video professional myself, I'm clearly misunderstanding your position.
