Obsolete hardware and performance boosts from Moore's law will take care of
that, there's no need to try and and accelerate the process by denying
maintainence updates.

If anything, I'd expect that updates give a better impression of after-sales
support, making a user more likely to choose the same brand again when they
go for the next inevitable (hardware-motivated) upgrade.
