Microsoft did not pay Sun for C#. Microsoft paid Sun as a penalty for 
abusing their trademark and breaching a contract.

earlier threads that the full J2SE on a phone was (at least at the time) not 
really feasible. It was android as we have it now, or something completely 
different. I know which one I'd rather have.

You don't need to pay people who make mistakes if you so happen to have 
watched them make these mistakes and you take this into account. We'd live 
in a very strange world if I owe somebody something because they show me how 
to not do something.
