I think this hides a better point.  You won't know how productive
something is or isn't unless you try.  Caution should of course be
used in deciding when to try something, but waiting for the community
to decide something is a good idea is often a less than ideal
solution.  If only because you'll simply be lagging an even slower
technology trend than what is the latest craze.
