While for me a fair comment and probably one of those things companies
have to do as they grow its more an observation or side effect of the
current system - it does not demonstrate that patents contribute to a
healthy ecosystem. The exact same statement can be made of companies
buying insurance, they probably skip on it at the beginning because
they cant afford it and other priorities, but nobody would rightly say
that insurance contributes to softwaare building. There are many other
countless business activities that are performed with a growing
business, they are not major contributing factors, they are just a
part of life.
