Well,

It seems you are entirely right.  I got laid off yesterday, and since beginning 
the job search, I've already been contacted about four jobs that involve Scala, 
two of which are directly in my area.

I think I'm definitely going to have a look at Haskell at this point too, seems 
like a great way to really double enforce the functional mindset.
