Hi, Yesterday I was "speaking" with some people on Twitter who were looking at learning Groovy or Scala, but didn't have a Java background. I found it interesting, because I'd always (wrongly) assumed folks who use these languages would know Java. So is it possible we'll end up with the next generation of JVM programmers who know little Java. Does it even matter?
As far as they understand the basic mechanisms of the JVM, such as JIT & GC, I don't see problems in directly learning Groovy or Scala, given that there are - as I suppose - tutorial starting from scratch.
