That only works for Chrome because 1) they're cheating (running executable code in the users home) and because they use a super effecient compression algorithm that caters to this "silent update" mechanism: http://blog.chromium.org/2009/07/smaller-is-faster-and-safer-too.html Automatic updating has it's drawbacks though. All too often, I am stopped in my daily development practices using the GWT Developer extension, because it is not incompatible.
