No, because Google is on a crusade against Java. In fact, they removed
their perfectly functional and useful J2ME GMail application from
their servers. They could have just placed a notice saying "this won't
be updated anymore, use it as-is" but no, they had to erase the
binaries from their servers.

Think of Microsoft making sure its apps don't run under WINE.

Fortunately users re-uploaded the app to third party servers without
Gurgle's permission... and it continues working just fine (someone
from sweden even hacked it to support multiple accounts, I think).

There is no graphics in a network centric tool, so the comparison is
really not appropiate.

Yes, some JNI could perhaps be needed.
