Sorry, I don't know if there are laws or not. However, I am curious,
what use case is this behaviour intended to address? I understand if
you can't talk about it, I'm just interested in what goes on some
people's minds :)

If you can't find a law, perhaps just pointing out the potential
damage of negative publicity around password leaks, such as with
LinkedIn[0].
