For a language which has already gone down the rabbit hole of having “static” elements, I think the change is nice, because the interface can now be used for factory methods. No “Arrays.asList” non-sense anymore! Please pick on a different feature to complain about the process with. :) The point I'm making is that the decision whether something gets the “official” treatment or is merged in behind the curtains seems to be driven more by marketing aspects and less so by technical aspects.
