Worry, not.  Everything you need is free.  The JDK can be downloaded
from the Sun site: http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp, or
you can download NetBeans IDE (also free) which will install the JDK
as well.

If you are using Linux, most package managers have implementation of
the JDK which you can install from their repositories or from a third
party repository.  If you are using Mac OS X, chances are you have
everything you need already.

If you tell us which platform/OS you will be using then we can point
you in a more specific direction.
