I was pretty sure that it was the dependancies and prototype causing the
slowdown, however, why does there have to be so much overhead to update the
positions of some DOM objects?

I don't think iframes are a good idea for window constraint at all, every
window object should have optional constraint properties that are interpreted
by the drag handler.. I'm pretty sure onDrag can constrain horizontally or
vertically..

Either way, our company is willing to invest some money into some performance
increases, weather these are seen in PWC, Prototype or Scriptaculous, it
doesn't matter, it'll be a benefit to us and the community.

I emailed Seb asking him about increasing performance, what you mentioned
brings more light to the situation though.

Jason, the issue you wish fixed, is really not PWC problem as it relies on a
lot of stuff from prototype and effects... Echo on the other hand has no
dependencies, thus their implementation of drag effects is completely different
-- this is in regards to speed. I have done a bunch of core modifications to
the library for customization here, but I can put them back per-se because I
was cutting corners... I can give recommendations for you and others on the
list on how this is accomplished.

As far as window contraints. This is another customization I've built, but
the problem with that is that there are a bunch of ways to do this. What I have
done is create iframe containers for windows, but there are other ways... This
particular one might go into the library when I talk to Sebastian and if he
approves.

I do hope somebody picks up the bounty for implementation for you though, as
those are good features.

  Felix.

I've posted before about the performance of this class not being up to
par with no response, so I'm trying again.

I'm willing to make a donation to someone willing to make this go faster,
the echo2 framework's windows drag so much faster even when using
alpha/shadowed windows.

That, and window constraint. Should be able to specify where each
individual window is allowed to move / maximized to.

I'm very serious about this, and anyone who wants to step up to the job
will be rewarded. (and helping a great opensource library isn't enough of a
reward?)

      DO IT!
