Hi Pavel:
You were absolutely right. I unloaded usbserial (together with visor) and it is now syncing like hell =) I do still have to run jsyncmanager as root because otherwise javax.usb doesn't see all devices. Do you maybe have some tips about that as well? I'm using devfs but I hear udev is better and maybe that's what can fix this?
FYI, I've just added the necessary code to cause the jSyncManager to tell javax.usb to attempt to force the claim to the handheld interface -- which means (if you have a supported kernel) you shouldn't have to worry about unloading visor and usbserial.
As for your other problem, what usbdevfs entry do you have in /etc/fstab? You may need to set your devmode to 0666. On my old RedHat 8 machine, I used to have to unmount the usbdevfs and re-mount it for each user that wanted to use it in order to make it accessible (the system was very recently upgraded to Fedora Core 3, and I haven't configured it for javax.usb yet).
Try doing some Google searches on setting up the usbdevfs -- there is information out there on this. HTH!
