If I remember correctly, it compiled fine, but generated a run-time
error.  It complained that it couldn't find something that was supposed
to be in the library, even though it was apparently finding the library
at compile time.

You should be able to recompile the library on a 64-bit system, the .so
provided with it is 32-bit.  I haven't actually tried it, though.
