I would definitely recommend getting a pair of high top javelin boots. The
amount of torque that you are applying to your body often ends up
translating into bodily injury, such as sprained ankles. Both Nike and
adidas make high tops (I am not familiar with Reebok's selection), and I am
slightly partial to adidas, since I prefer a mesh top to non-breathable
leather.
Most sporting goods stores will have catalogs from various show
manufacturers, so if you go in one day and make friends with the owner, I am
sure they will let you take a look at the catalog to see what is out there.
Generally, a store isn't going to have any in stock (not enough jav throwers
walking in off the street to buy boots, unless you live in Finland) so you
will need to order them. You can probably also find some information on the
Web.
Depending on how often you throw, a pair of boots can last you about 2-3
years. If you are throwing off grass, no problem. When I was throwing in
college off artificial surfaces, I went through a pair a year.
In short, it's a good investment, you can adjust spike length, and it looks
cooler than cleats.
