Hey Nick,
I'm a junior in High School and my personal best so far in practice is
about 185-190'.
Our first meet is this Thursday, so I'll get a better estimate on how well
I'm throwing then.
I'm usually a slow starter, it takes me almost 3/4 of the season to get up
to full strength,
usually just in time for the big meets (Conference, States and New Englands).
As for grip, I use the Finnish grip, with my index finger extended out and
my thumb and middle
finger at the base of the grip. We have some other good throwers at my
High School (3 juniors,
one throws about 160-165, and two more at about 130-140). They've tried
the grip that I use
and it jsut doesn't work for them. I tried teaching the grip to our
freshman (about 6-7 of them, most
throw around 80-90 feet, a couple over 100.) and it just didn't feel
natural for them. Grip is really
a matter of preference and comfort.
