The way I use the contact search is,
while in the contact list, type in the first few characters of a contacts
name, but don't press enter.
Now arrow down and it should show you the contacts that meet that search
criteria.
To get out of the search, up arrow to the edit field for the search and
backspace any characters that you have there, then arrow down and you will
be in the contact list.
Note: If you type in a few characters in the search field and press enter,
and that contact is online, that will automatically open a conversation
window with that contact.

I can't figure out just how the search works. I mean, I put a contact name
in the search and pressed inter, and nothing happened.
Maybe I should just go back to MsN messenger7.5.
