What sound card do you have? There's a known issue with some earlier models
of the Audigy card from Creative Labs and there's a technical notice at:

that you should read.

The past couple weeks when using eloquence for Jaws, I get some static and
popping sounds: particularly when Jaws stops speaking. I tried switching to
sassy 5 and this is not happening there. Could this be an indication that
my sound card is going?
