Also if I might add there will be an updated version of the scripts that I
recently acquired going up on the page real soon.

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] new version of spy bot available

Hi:

I just tested the new build of Spybot 1.5 beta, and it works fine with the
scripts on David's Paige. I also think it works much better and has more
thorough checks for more kinds of spyware.

In addition, I was able to install with jaws 8 latest version without
loosing speech, but that may vary from computer to computer. If you get an
error while trying to install the program, try installing it with Jaws
turned off or use narrator.

I have not had this problem since jaws 6, however others have. It's more of
a conflict with jaws and different hardware such as video drivers etcetera.
I know The makers of Spybot did make a change to fix this around version 1.4
I think, but it does not work for everyone.

In addition if you have check for new beta versions in the settings it will
download any new build of the beta and install it without having to go
looking for it.

. Below are a few hints.

The major change in this new version is an update wizard that comes up after
install.

If you are using a proxy in Internet Explorer, Spybot-S&D will show you this
proxy and a button will give you the opportunity to use it for Spybot-S&D.

You will have to use your jaws curser to select a download sight and then do
a control end and left click on continue.

Now you will have a list of downloads to choose from; use your space bar to
check the updates you want then use the jaws curser to go to the bottom of
the window and left click on download.

After it is finished either tab to scan, of hit the applications key and
arrow up to scan and hit enter.

Hit shift, control Plus L and check what you want removed.

Now hit control F to remove the spyware you checked.

Note you should hit Alt plus N to go to the navigation menu, then arrow up
to settings and right arrow to enter, then arrow to settings and hit enter.

You will be in a treview that you can arrow down and use the space bar to
turn on or off settings.

You should toggle on the following settings:

I do know about all that legal stuff, save all settings, Create backups of
fixed files for easy recovery, Create backups of removable tracks for easy
recovery, Create backups of system internals for easy recovery, Turn on Both
of the create system restore points, display conformation before doing
critical changes.

. Display compatibility warnings should be set to off if you have add aware
installed.

. Play alerts on these occasions is your choice, if you toggle them on you
can browse on a sound to play.

In addition toggle on immunize on program start if program has been updated,
close program if everything is OK.

. Toggle on search the web for new version at each program start, update,
Download and include new files if available, Display available beta versions
is your choice I like to turn this on so I don't have to search for updated
builds, Display PDG signature updates.

. This will keep you from having to update manually and select the files to
update manually so it does it automatically when you open the program.

. Also toggle on use interface optimized for blind users use shredder to
remove usage tracks, use shredder when purging recovery files.

All other setting should be left as is.

. Now go back to the navigation menu, settings and right arrow to enter the
menu then hit enter on ignore cookies. You will now be in a list of your
cookies. Use the space bar to check the cookies you do not want Spybot to
remove.

. Also in the navigation menu, setting you can choose to exclude certain
file extensions, applications, tracks etc.

. Note, while in the list of spyware it found, if there is an entry you do
not want it to remove or check for then right click on it and arrow up to
exclude from further searches.

. How to temporary disable Spybot:

You only need to disable the resident feature of Spybot - Search&Destroy.

That is the way to deactivate it: run Spybot-S&D, switch to the "Advanced
mode" via the menu bar item

"Mode" -- hit "YES" -- select "Tools" in the navigation bar "Resident" and
there you can uncheck the checkboxes in front of the two tools, But warning,
Then you won't have resident protection.

. Direct download for spybotsd1.5.1.13.exe:

http://www.safer-networking.org/files/beta/spybotsd15.exe

* Here is a list of command line parameters that the Spybot-S&D main
executable (spybotsd.exe) supports:

. /taskbarhide

Runs Spybot-S&D completely hidden (no window, no taskbar icon), so make
absolutely sure you use it only in combination with /autoclose (otherwise it
would

Remain in memory sitting idle). Useful only in combination with /autocheck,
/autoupdate or /autoimmunize, as it cannot be controlled when completely
invisible.

. /minimized

Starts the window minimized.

. /uninstall

Uninstalls Spybot-S&D. This command line parameter is very outdated -
unins00.exe should be used instead!

. /blinduser

Starts with support for blind users (special menus).

. /autoupdate

Does an update after starting the program.

. /autocheck

Starts scanning immediately.

. /autofix

Fixes problems after scan.

. /autoclose

Closes program after it has scanned or updated.

. /autoimmunize

Runs the immunization at program start.

. /onlyspyware

Fixes only spyware (red) entries with /autofix, leaving all usage tracks as
they are.

. /easymode

Starts with easier interface for newbies.

. /allhives

Scans all (including inactive) Windows installations for Windows 2000, XP
and 2003.

. And here is a list of command line parameters that the Spybot-S&D
installer supports:

. /silent

Will display the progress during installation, but not the wizard.

. /verysilent

Even the progress will not be shown, however Errors etc. would still be
shown.

. /nocancel

Disables the Cancel and Close button. Useful with /silent.

. /dir="x:\dirname"

Installs into that directory instead of the default one.

. /group="folder name"

Installs into a program group of that name instead of the default one.

. /noicons

Avoids creation of any icons for the installed software.

. /components="comma separated list of component names"

Installs the given components instead of the default ones. Components are
main, blind (icons for blind users), language (all language files) and
skins.

*Note: Please be aware that the Spybot-S&D path has to be in quotation marks
and multiple parameters have to be separated by a space.

Example: "C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\SpybotSD.exe"
/taskbarhide/autoclose /autocheck /autofix /onlyspyware

* Spybot supports the use of command line switches from a batch file;
however, this is not necessary unless you want to use them for greater
automated usage of the program.

What this means is that it requires no user interaction. You run a batch
file

which will run the spybot program, perform all neccessary updates, then
perform a full system scan. It will then notify you of the number of spyware
items

it found. When you choose okay, Spybot will then remove all the spyware
automatically. follow the below steps to use Spybot with the

batch file.

Installation of Spybot batch file.

1. Copy the below into notepat:

spybotsd.exe /blinduser /autoupdate /autocheck /autofix /autoclose

2. Save it with the name Autorun.bat.

3. Copy the Autorun.bat file you just created to:

C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy (You MUST install the files to
this folder).

4. Using Spybot Spybot with the batch file. Go to the folder C:\Program
Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy.

5. Enter on the file named autorun.bat. This will run the spybot program,
perform all necessary updates and automatically fix all problems.

6. When the program is finished, you can go to your log folder (on my system
it is at:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search &
Destroy\Logs

There you will find log and txt file for that scan to see what it found and
what it removed.

I thank you as well for the direct link. This is at the very least a major
team effort to keep up on all this stuff. I'll post it shortly.

Hi David:
Actually the program you want is called "spybotsd15.exe". I think you just
downloaded the definitions. The direct link to download is below.
Also thank you to Steve for pointing out a newer version.

Also my fault for not mentioning it is still a beta version. The program I
just downloaded is

spybotsd_includes.exe

Is this correct?

I've seen a number of mentions of spybot 1.5 recently; no-one seems to
have pointed out that this is a beta, not an official release. For those
interested, the following link takes you to a page which gives a later
version of the beta which came out on 11th July.

I just placed spy bot 1.5 June 2007 up on the programs page. Some time
early next week I'll update the script files that go with it, but until
then the old scripts will get you through the weekend just fine.
