Nod32 will work with JAWS8, whether you tweak it or not; and the tweaks are very minor - a matter of making the interface more accessible. I used AVG briefly, before trying out Nod32, and I prefer Nod32 and have subscribed to it. You can, in fact, 'set it and forget it'. It updates itself frequently, sometimes three or four times a day. It also leaves a very small footprint behind, taking up minimal computer resources. Which one one likes may be largely subjective; but I've heard of AVG giving 'false positives' and also not catching real positives. (I haven't heard that about Nod32.)
