Go to the following URI:

about:plugins

in your Firefox address bar, and check what version of the plugin
Firefox is actually using.

Be aware that while installing Flash might allow Flash video and audio
to play in Firefox, the Flash plugin Adobe produced for Firefox doesn't
expose Flash widgets using the Flash accessibility featureset to the
Windows accessibility framework. So if you have a webpage built entirely
with Flash that uses the Flash accessibility framework (for example,
http://www.jkrowling.com ), you still wouldn't be able to use it from
Firefox. (It would work in Internet Explorer, though.)

Also be aware that some sites use JavaScript to detect Flash support, so
if you have JavaScript disabled, you might well still get messages about
a missing Flash Plugin.

8.5 isn't the newest version. The newest version is 9. Get it from
Adobe's site:

What version of JFW are you using? There are often Flash fixes to JAWS.
e.g. in the February update:

"JAWS no longer experiences problems with the Flash animation that
appears on the Bank of America Web page."

Also, what version of Firefox are you using?

Most Firefox users have Flash installed, so I doubt it's because you
installed Flash. It's likely to indicate some other problem with your
Firefox installation or just a problem with your profile. Create a new
profile, ensure Flash is installed in that profile, and try clicking
that link again. If that fails, export your bookmarks to a
bookmarks.html file. Then uninstall and reinstall Firefox, reimport your
bookmarks, and ensure Firefox is using the Flash plugin.

(It would also be worth pasting the URL of the page here, and telling us
which link is crashing Firefox.)

You can uninstall the Flash Player with Adobe's uninstaller:

And you can download older versions of the Flash Player from:
