Oh!

Perhaps I misunderstood. I understood that he had just deleted the shortcut off 
of the desktop, not the entire folder but even then would it not be in the 
recycle  bin? Is there something else different or unique about it or or other 
special characteristics about it?

So far as I can tell that is all it is on the desktop, a shortcut. On my 
computer at work I altered it to point to a My Documents folder and it's 
sub-folders set up on a network drive which they back up every night to reduce 
the risk of me loosing stuff to a local equipment failure or when they change 
computers every few years.
