Mark, This is not always the case Mark. Windows Updates do not always have the most current drivers. It is best to go to the manufacturer (HP in this case), and look for drivers under downloads on their pages. You will just need to have all the details about your laptop model and the Audio Chipset you have.
If you get stuck, you may want to call to Freedom Scientific support and they may assist you on this one.
