I might add to David's instructions that you can keep other media players from taking over as the default player by enabling Winamp Agent. While in Winamp do a control p for preferences. Type the letter f for file types. Tab to, Winamp agent and press your spacebar to check it. Tab to close and press spacebar. This will prevent other players like Windows Media Player from taking over as the default.
