I would suggest you try the tweak for Outlook calendar by Steve Griffith at the RNIB. I did this and it worked a treat for me. Outlook calendar now reads all days as well as dates for me. I am using Outlook 2003.

I copied and pasted the settings in your post into my regional settings as you suggested and Outlook has been transformed into a completely accessible calendar and I have been happily cursoring through different dates in month and week view with Jaws reading out the day as well as the date. I have spent literally hours trying out other solutions and programs to try and get this effect. Your change took less than 2 minutes plus a reboot to solve this problem. This makes finding for example the second Tuesday in a month much more straightforward. I would strongly recommend that this advice be put on the tips and tricks page. I realise it applies to UK date settings but presumably our friends elsewhere in the world could edit your advice to suit their local settings. Many thanks David Griffith -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Griffiths, Steve Sent: 13 November 2007 05:57 To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Reading the day of the week David, Here are three suggestions: 1. Reading the day is upset by having the TaskPad on the screen, so make sure it is turned off - it's in the View menu. 2. On some PCs, the following change to a Windows setting allows JAWS to read the day. Open the Start Menu, go into the Settings submenu and choose Control Panel. Press R to jump to "Regional and Language Options", and press Enter to open a dialogue. Tab to a "Standard and formats Customize" button and press Enter to open a further dialogue box. Control + Tab to the Date page, and then Tab to the Long date format and change it to: <dddd, dd MMMM yyyy> Both the number of characters and their case are important in the format, so make sure it's right! Once you have typed this in, you can Tab to the OK button and press it, then Tab to another OK button and press it, and then close the Control Panel. You might need to stop and start Outlook before the change takes effect. Now when you move from day to day with LeftArrow and RightArrow, JAWS should give you the day name as well as the date. Beware that this change can cause JAWS' behaviour in reading out day and date information to deteriorate even further, so you may have to undo the setting change to get it back. 3. Remember that when you press Control + G, it gives the first three letters of the day along with the date of the current day. So for your example, you could go to the calendar, press Control + G and type in 11/2/08 Enter to jump to the day you're interested in, then press Control + G again to get the day information and press Escape to get rid of the dialogue once you have it. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of sue morgan Sent: Wednesday, 23 January 2008 21:33 To: Jaws; [email protected] Subject: [JAWS-Users] Outlook. Hi. I use outlook express currently at home, but I work for Barclays bank in one of their call centres where they use outlook. I'm trying to get to grips with it and I'm wondering if anyone knows of an audio tutorial that I can download. The part of outlook I'll be using mainly is the calendar. When I open up the calendar I use the left and right arrows to move between the days of the week. The day view is checked but Jaws doesn't announce which day I'm on. I press insert control plus D and Jaws announces the current date and then I tab to see if there are any appointments in the calendar for that day. That's as far as I've got I'm afraid. I've got Jaws 5 at work because Barclays is still on Windows NT believe it or not. I'd be grateful if anyone could give me some more pointers around navigating outlook. My Skype and Messenger details are on my signature at the bottom of this e-mail if anyone would like to contact me. Thanks.
