Thanks RJ and David,

I have tried Super anti-spyware, it found a couple of cookies but that wasn't
it. I do like the interface though.

I have been reading about Trojans and viruses, the bug that Spyware Doctor
keeps reporting, called a Trojan, PurityScan also known as PuritySweep and
claims to remove successfully doesn't actually seem to be the issue or even
there, I can't find the files associated with that on this computer so I don't
think it can be that.

For a long time I have had trouble with Rundll32.exe coming up and going from
using no resources to fluctuating between about 85 to 95%. I have chased this
about the Internet for many months now not coming up with any clear solutions,
I see many others complain of this happening and before another flood of
reports that this is a virus it is in fact a part of WinXP. By using the Find
function I have discovered a number of instances of something like Rundll32.exe
but with a series of other letters and numbers following the .exe file
extension many of those in the \Windows\Prefetch folder. I don't know what that
is, I can guess something about it though. I took a chance and deleted them and
hopefully removed them from the recycle bin, maybe it is now fixed.

Certain activities on the Web seem to aggravate the problem, usually
For-The-People and sometimes Skype. I did find some dodgy looking .JSD files in
the Freedom Scientific folder, I don't remember for certain their names, they
were names I had seen associated with a bug though, I think something like
swdcvd but not certain now. They are gone and so far I haven't seen a problem
with Jaws.

It is only a couple of days now but things seem to be running better.

I send all this just in case someone else is running into trouble. My computer
seems to get into a loop and nothing responds. Jaws gets really really slow
then quits altogether. It has been happening with various frequency for probably
a year now.

If this is too far from list topic I am sorry. From my research so far it is
not a specific Jaws issue beyond the fact that as Jaws becomes increasingly
dysfunctional one can't make sense of anything on the screen. Not sure though
that this is quite the disadvantage one might think, this Thinkpad has a series
of lights velox the screen which, the other day were showing computer life, an
Internet connection a so on but the screen was apparently blank.

Thanks for your suggestions and thanks list for your indulgence.
