Hi Patti,

JAWS really has nothing to do with what you want to do other than you need
it to know what's going on with your computer.

First of all, are you familiar with the feature that allows a user to change
the location of his/her Outlook Express files? This is important because
that's how you can determine where your files are stored on both your old
and new PC.

OK, that said -- and presuming that you are familiar with the feature of OE
that let's a user change the location of OE files -- find out where on your
old computer your DBX files are stored and make a note of this path. Then
do the same thing on your new PC and again note the location where files are
stored.

Then I strongly advise that on your new computer create a new transfer
folder of some sort in your new OE. For example, as a folder at the same
level as your new InBox create a folder named "X-Fer" and then within that
folder re-create the exact folder structure of your old PC's Outlook
Express. For example, there should be an "InBox" as a sub-folder of this
new "X-Fer" folder and any other folders that exist in your old OE should
likewise have a counterpart under this "X-Fer" folder. This will make sense
to you shortly.

Now find the DBX files that reside in your old OE that are email storage
folders rather than parent folders that hold sub-folders. Each of these
email storage folders should have a counterpart folder on the new PC that
you would have created as I've advised above. You can then copy each of
these DBX files over to your new PC and be sure to place them as overwrites
to the sub-folders you created under X-Fer in your new OE. You will then be
able to access all the email messages stored in the old DBX files right from
your new OE and you can move them just as you please.

If something here doesn't make sense to you please feel free to contact me
and I can call you (I have flat rate long distance) and walk you through
this.

I know it's complicated, but the explanation is complicated because what you
want to do is complicated and somewhat risky. I say risky because if you're
not careful to bring the old messages as I've advised you run the risk of
losing newer messages that come into your new OE.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Moving folders in OE

I have a new challenge for the list?
I got a new computer, and I want to move some of my folders from outlook
express that are full of emails that I don't want to lose, to the new
computer outlook express.
I thought I could zip the folder and move it that way, but I can't figure it
out. Does any one know how I can do it with Jaws 8?
On both computers I'm running Jaws 8, windows XP home, and IE 7. I have a
transfer kit, but I don't want this OE, because there is something wrong
with this one, and I want to start out with the new Outlook express.
I hope this makes since to you.
Patti
