Hi Patti, My brother and I use this method all the time when moving Outlook Express folders and e-mails to client's new computers.
It is really quite simple, and you may kick yourself for not thinking of it. Smile. In any case, you'll want to navigate to the following directory: C:\Documents and Settings\Your user name\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\Big long file name\Microsoft\Outlook Express\ Keep in mind that the user name and big long filename will depend on your own system and are different for each computer and user. Once you've found this directory, copy it to a portable storage media, such as a CD, USB stick, or portable hard drive, and keep it aside. Once you've got it on that portable device, set it aside and do some important maintenance on that second computer you want to place the old files on. The important maintenance is the complete updating of Outlook Express. The reason behind making sure that OE is updated is that, presumably, your old copy of OE was updated, so the new one should be also. This also refers to security updates and program updates that may be available, necessary and optional. If this is already the case, navigate to the same location on the new computer, and copy the file folder Out look Express to the same location, making sure to overwrite the files that are already in there. As has already been stated in another message, make sure your folder options are set to show hidden files and folders, and do not go into the Outlook Express folder, simply go as far as the Microsoft folder, and copy the Outlook Express folder into that directory. Once you run Outlook Express the folders and all your e-mail from the old computer will be in their respective folders, and their hierarchy will still be retained. Please keep in mind that this process will not bring any of your message rules or view settings along, so you will have to redo that part of it again, but I think this is the simplest way of doing this, and, as I said, this is the process we use when our clients want to back up their data from a previous drive onto their new computers or drives.
