Hi Mack,

When you complete JAWS installation, after the Activation dialog, it opens
the JAWS Startup Wizard. Amon other initial settings, you can specify
wetter or not JAWS starts automatically on Logon screen and/or after you
log in, as well as if JAWS will be displayed as a window on the taskbar
(the window have a menu bar for accessing various settings and utilities)
or as an icon in the system tray (right side near the clock at the bottom
of the screen); in that last case, items of the menu bar are shown as sub
menus on a context menu. To quickly access that set of options and
utilities, regardless the way in which displaying of JAWS program window is
configured, press INSERT+J.
If you dismissed the Startup Wizard or you accidentally configured
something in a wrong way, despite the fact that those options and more are
available in various JAWS dialogs and utilities like the Basics dialog or
the Settings Center, you can reopen this wizard by going to the Help menu
or sub menu (ALT+H) and then pressing Z to quickly go to Startup Wizard.
If you want to configure automatic starting without following the wizard,
go to the Options menu or sub menu and then to Basics. In this dialog, tab
to the Launch JAWS at Startup button and press SPACEBAR to open a second
dialog box in which you can configure automatic starting up on both stages
as you wish. Note that setting up launching on the Logon screen or for all
users require administrative privileges; therefore, if your user account is
a standard one, you'll only see the combo box to specify if JAWS will start
automatically on that account.
If you have Windows Vista or newer, you can also control these settings
through the Windows Ease of Access Center that brings up by pressing
WINDOWS+U, specifically through the Use the Computer without a Display link
for the current user, and the one that says Change Administrative Settings
for setting up the behavior in the Logon screen.

Unlike other screen readers, although JAWS automatically adds a Desktop
shortcut, that shortcut does not include a keyboard shortcut by default. To
add it one, find the shortcut in your Desktop, press ALT+ENTER to open the
shortcut's properties dialog, tab to the Shortcut Key hot key edit, press
the hotkey you want, tab to the OK button and activate it with SPACEBAR.

Hope it helps!
