If I might jump in here to hopefully do justice to your question. The my extensions file concept arose when as it happened folks were modifying the default script file and then an update in JAWS changed that file causing unwelcome results.

So if we stick to modifying the extensions file which is a sub program to the default script file in short nothing they do will effect our side and the same goes for the other way around.

Also from version to version the my extensions script just gets passed along in the hopes of a smoother transition.

Hi Eric,

Could you expand upon your statement below? I don't understand why
modifying the default script would be the preferred method over using the my
extensions file method or creating a stand-alone script and keyboard
assignment to say both the date and time. What am I overlooking?

Thanks,

Reed

That is not true Jitendra. The time and date script uses a function called
IfIsSameKey in order to read the date, and this becomes an issue for anyone
who has to use Sticky keys which is what generated the question. The script
change that was proposed on the list, was exactly the correct solution to
follow.

Eric

I am afraid you don't need to modify any script, just from the keyboard
manager default file, find the script and assign any key you want.
Script name: SaySystemTray
This is if memory serves correctly, from JAWS 3.5 and still exist, Don't
worry, I have tested it, and it says the time and then date on a single
press.
Thank you, Jitendra from india.

Hi David,

I did look on the scripts page, but apparently I didn'tknow what I was
looking for because I didn't find it. If you don't mind, would you
post the link for it? The person I was asking the question on behalf
of, I now noticed is a member of the list, & he can take a look at it.

Yes, in fact the script you are asking for has been on the server for
several years already if memory serves.

Is this person accustomed to modifying script files? If not get
somebody who is I strongly advise.

Hi All,

Is there any way to modify the, Jaws key + F12, keystroke / script so
that it will say both the time & date when press ing it just 1 time.
This is for a 1 handed child, & turning on Insert key mode only works
for 1 press of the Insert / Jaws key, not if you need to press it
twice to get the date. All help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
much.
