A two-part answer.

First, I just plugged "du luth" into the replacement field of my JAWS
dictionary, and it pronounced the city's name correctly, at least for my
synthesizer.

Second, I've found no consistency in how the JAWS dictionary processes the
emphasis of syllables. Finding a solution in each case depends on trial and
error and experience. Even then, sometimes I can find no good solution.

Hello how about this, dulUth I capitalized the second u .
I don't know if this is what you are looking for or not. I have had to spell a
word differently in order to make it sound right with jaws.

Try putting in the way to say Duluth the following:
Dul uth
Note I broke the word into two syllables as dul and uth Play with the way the
word is spoken. Probably other options such as Da luth John -----Original

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Pronunciation dictionary

When trying to define the proper pronunciation for a word in the JAWS 18
dictionary, how does one indicate the syllable that should receive the accent?

I'm trying to get JAWS to pronounce Duluth properly. The accent should be on
the second syllable. JAWS wants to put it on the first syllable.
Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks,
Jeff
