sometimes if you plug in a flash drive or another drive windows will erase the drive letter. so the next time you plug it in windows will not find it.
open a context menu on the computer icon and click on manage.
find storage useing first letter navigation s
from here its tricky. you have to try to get the list of drives. it takes a few seconds for the list to come up.
it would be better if you have help.
see if your u s b drive shows in the list.
there may be 2 partitions.
one is the system partition and it should be active if its there.
the next should be the partition used for your files. see if there is a drive letter assigned to it. if not you have to open another context menu on it to assign a letter to it. once a drive letter is assigned the usual dialog may pop up to open the drive to view files.
hope this helps.

Lenny,

This has happened to me. Try this:

Disconnect the drive via your USB cable.
Shut down your computer.
Start up your computer and wait until you get to the desktop.
Connect your USB cable.

Hopefully this will work. If not, then you might want to try a system
restore back to before you last saw that drive.

I have a Seagate ex drive that I use to backup on my win 7 machine. I do not
know when it started but today under my computer it is no longer listed.
Device manager reports that it is working correctly and that I have the
newest driver installed. I restarted the computer several times and the
drive is not listed. I think it was about 2 weeks ago when I last used it.
Pulling out the usb cable I hear the tone alert likewise when I plug it back
in again I hear the tones. Any thoughts on how I can correct this?
Thanks
