I didn't see a response to this question. So when I happened to be on a computer that can still run JAWS14 today, I thought I'd give it a try.
By default, the JAWSKey is the insert key when you're using the Desktop keyboard layout and the Caps Lock key when you're using the Laptop keyboard layout. wen JAWS 14 is running: Hold down the JAWSKey and press 6 on the numbers row to open the Jaws settings center. Hold down the shift and control and press d to open the default settings. Press tab and JAWS will say User. Press the right arrow once then press the down arrow twice and JAWS will say Typing echo. Press the space bar until JAWS says off. Press enter to save the change. The above steps will set the typing echo to off by default. But if any of the applications has specified the typing echo to something else, this will override the default. So if you find any of these, perform the steps above while the application is running, but skip the step of holding down the control and shift keys and pressing d. -----Original Message----- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of joanne Sent: Tuesday, October 24, 2017 03:47 To: [email protected] Subject: [JAWS-Users] what is the easiest way to turn key echo off in jaws 14 I could do this in earlier versions using the insert j menus, but we don't see, in jaws 14, a place in these menus where we can permanently change from all characters to none. Thanks for any assistance.
