Hi Rose, I share your frustration with ResearchIt as it has utility when
operating properly.
In my case, I did a repair to again capture that list but once again, like you,
it disappeared. However, while there is clearly an underlying bug of some
kind, simply unloading and reloading JAWS 2018 brought back that list.
Hopefully they won’t give up on a permanent fix for it and see if this simple
and quick option will fix it for you in the meantime.

Edge has a steep learning curve too but the control-shift-R keystroke provided
by David was a big help in reading text at cluttered web sites, FWIW. Mitch

Research it is nonfunctional, Jaws restarted and all the places one can
search are gone, this happened in the last beta and now in the full version.
A reinstall fixed it in the beta but the next time I restarted computer and
Jaws it all disappeared again. I do not intend to reinstall Jaws every day
because this function disappears, the whole list from top to bottom is gone,
my search terms remain but nothing to search.

I suppose I do without it for now, not like I made extensive use of it but
it was nice, but as I said, I am not reinstalling Jaws each time I have a
need for it.

Also, in reading Outlook 2016 from Office 365, having read messages turned
on does not work all the time, generally after I reply to a message I then
have to exit and reenter and even then this feature isn't always reading. I
turned it on so when I enter a message it would read, its purpose, so I did
not have to continuously press insert down arrow after hearing the header.
This also happened in Jaws 18 and all betas of 2018.

As to Edge I will go there screaming, it is shameful that MS has taken more
than 27 months to allow screen readers to halfway access the product.
Firefox seems to be following in their footsteps, never cared for that
browser all that much in the first place, now it is not even an option for
me. Chrome, no help, no menus, no way to know if I can import my favorites,
or use commands IE 11 still provides. Better to update IE 11 or give us
options to use functions similar to it in Edge.

These are my observations in the full 2018 thus far.

Text selection and copy/paste is not yet working in Edge with JAWS. I
suggest using one of the other browsers as your default. Support for Chrome,
IE, and Firefox is much more robust in these with assistive technology
today.

Rebecca,

A partial response. First, I knew of the October update only because another
contributor here, Mike B, posted not only the alert, but also the download
links and the improvements list. You can count on him to keep us advised of
every release.
FYI, JAWS uses the word "version" to refer to the basic number (such as 17,
18, now 2018). Periodically "releases" or new "builds" are released, and
this is where you get the four digits following the decimal point.

I'm a long-term JAWS user, but like you, I wait a while to make sure a new
version doesn't have something unpleasant lurking in it. I'm grateful that
other JAWS users are more eager to keep up to date.

Others will have to answer your Edge questions.

I'm a new JAWS user migrated from Window-Eyes, so be patient with what may
be questions with obvious answers. Smile..

I'm currently running JAWS 18 with the September 2017 update.

I got no notification of a later update and the Check For Updates in the
Help menu confirms that I'm running the most current version. But I found
this on the JAWS website:

JAWS 18.0.4350 64-bit English - October 2017

The following is a list of improvements made between the JAWS 18 September
2017 release and the October 2017 update.

list of 3 items

. Resolved a customer reported issue with the 8400 series of Outlook 365
updates where JAWS was not automatically reading the suggested addresses
when

typing in the address fields of a new message. To check your Outlook 365
version, use the JAWS command CTRL+INSERT+V while focused in Outlook.

. Addressed issues where Edge would unexpectedly stop working while
navigating on various pages.

. Added new Research It lookup sources to the French version of JAWS for two
libraries for the blind in France.

list end

I found this only because I was helping a friend set up Edge and her arrows
weren't reading down the page. A JAWS tech told her there was an October
update.

My Edge is reading properly. Should I put the new update in anyway? I plan
to download 2018 but It will probably be a month or two before the Fall
Creator's update finds my computer, so I thought I'd let more technical
people test-drive the 2018 version of JAWS for the next few weeks.

Also, the JAWS tech told my friend, if she understood correctly, that there
is no virtual cursor in Edge. When I've tried to copy material in Edge,
JAWS says, "selection using the virtual cursor is not yet supported in
Edge."

I had assume from this that the virtual cursor is being used.

And my last comment, for those of you running JAWS 2018, are you now able to
select and copy text, or is this still in the works?

Thanks.

Rebecca
