It doesn't sound like he actually wants to stop updates altogether, just to
choose when they happen, which as you can say you can do with Group Policy
editor with Enterprise, Educational or professional Windows 10. Perhaps play
with the configuration settings and see if the download button appears. I
had to tweak my Windows 10 a lot as it was being very uncooperative.

Another way, if you just have the Home edition of Windows 10, is to set your
connection to "metered". In the past this only worked with a wi-fi network,
but I believe Microsoft caved in to pressure when they released the
Creators' update, and you can now do this with an Ethernet connection as
well. When I first got this computer I actually had to do this, because my
modem wasn't working and so if I wanted to be on the net, I had to tether my
phone to the computer. Windows 10 immediately started sucking up all the
data. Anyway, if you really wanted to try this, there are some instructions
here:

windows-10-updates.html

If I'm not mistaken, unless you're running Windows 10 Enterprise or
Professional, Downloads are automatically Downloaded and Installed. The
only button you should be able to see is the restart now button if you want
to finish the downloads instead of waiting for the computer to do it for
you.

With Windows 10 Enterprise and Professional, you have the option to defer
updates, but that only means you're allowed some time before you have to
download and install it, and even than, this feature only applies to major
service packs of Windows 10, such as the Creator's Update etcetera.

Hope this helps.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] windows 10 and jaws question

Hello Listers,

Just recently. I have upgrated two of my neighbors computers from windows 7
64 bit to windows 10 home. The problem I am having is as follows. After
enableing group policy editer and setting windows updates to notify to
download and install, I am unable to see the download updates button. I
have even tried using touch cursor to no avail. The funny thing, is I can
see the list of available updates but no download button. Running jaws
2018.

Thanks

Michael

their children-not merely peace for Americans but peace for all men and
women, not merely peace in our time but peace in all time."
