Mike: Thanks. Now here is the trippy part. I did as you instructed, and the
read only check box was not checked; but when I opened it up, it said read
only. Explanations, please. And on a side note, how would I password protect
a document in the same word document format i.e., Word 13. Thanks again.

Try highlighting / selecting the document, press, Alt + enter, to open its
properties, & if the, Read Only , box is checked uncheck it, tab to,Okay, &
press enter.
