Thanks. I did the copying of the text and created a new document. I saved it to my external again, and I'll be darned if it didin't save it as a read only format again. This is really getting me irritated. Any suggestions?

Hi Jerry,

Try what Fernando posted a while back:
From: Fernando
If the file have the Read-Only attribute set in its properties, find the
file in File Explorer, press ALT+ENTER to open the Properties dialog and
uncheck the Read-Only checkbox. If the file was marked as final using the
Word 2007 and latter feature for that, either press F6 to focus the Word
status bar and right arrow until the Edit Anyway button, or press ALT+F to
open the File tab. On the Backstage view or File tab, press TAB until the
Protect Document item and activate it with SPACEBAR; in the menus which will
open, uncheck the Mark as Final option.

Mike: Thanks. Now here is the trippy part. I did as you instructed, and the
read only check box was not checked; but when I opened it up, it said read
only. Explanations, please. And on a side note, how would I password protect
a document in the same word document format i.e., Word 13. Thanks again.

Evening all.

I know that this has, probably, been asked before, so forgive my sometimers
memory. What are the exact steps for removing the read only mode in Word 13?
I have JAWS 2018, Word 13 and Windows 10 on a Dell laptop. Thanks.

Jerry
