Hi

I have found that creating a shortcut key to start a particular version of
JAWS is not as useful as it was in days of yore. But there is an easy way
to start any version of JAWS which does not need any changes to make it
work.

With a shortcut key, you have to make sure that all shortcut keys on the
computer are only used for 1 program. If there is a duplicate shortcut key,
neither shortcut key will work. When a JAWS update is run, JAWS recreates a
new shortcut on the desktop which does not have a shortcut key. So you have
to recreate the shortcut key. I doubt that this has changed for JAWS 2018.
When you install a new version of JAWS, unless you first uninstalled the
current version, you have to either create and remember a different
shortcut key for the new version or delete or change the shortcut key for
the old version .
To easily start any version of JAWS, just hold down the Windows key and
press r to open the Windows run dialog. Then enter the name of the JAWS
version you want to start and press enter. The name of the JAWS version is
JAWS followed by the version number. For JAWS 17, the name is JAWS17. For
JAWS 18, the name is JAWS 18 and for JAWS 2018 the name is JAWS2018.
Capital letters are not required. I find that this method of starting JAWS
is very easy when I want to run different versions of jaws at different
times.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] shortcut key for jaws

I'm still using Jaws 18 so I don't know if this is changed in Jaws 2018.
However, I have noticed over the years when you perform a jaws update you
also have to put back your shortcut key to bring up Jaws. I'mglad I have
Jaws to start first on reboot because I would have a difficult time trying
to find the version of jaws I'm using since I have Jaws 17 as well as 18 on
the desktop.
